About fin - your fishmonger

the story

fin - your fishmonger's local owners, Peter Kenyon and Dora Swan, raised their families in the Capital District, and were frustrated that there were no consistent local sources for fresh, premium quality, sustainable seafood.

fin - your fishmonger started as an idea on the couple's back porch in Altamont, NY. Within a short time, a connection to Fish Pier in Boston was re-established and the "idea" moved to "reality" at the Saturday Delmar Farmer's Market in August, 2011. fin developed a loyal, vocal, effervescent following very quickly. These "finatics" demanded that fin maintain a presence in the Delmar community once the market season ended. So, the couple brought their refrigerated truck into the Phillips hardware parking lot on Delaware Avenue and set up shop each Saturday morning through the winter. (See that story here: Bethlehem Spotlight. That's Pete and Dora on a warm, winter 2011 day.) Another community beckoned, and the couple began selling their seafood in the lot next to Carman Wine and Liquor in Guilderland within a month. That was a long and cold winter for Pete and Dora.

fresh - sustainable - memorable

fin - your fishmonger offers fresh, sustainable seafood from the world over that is premium, Grade A, top-of-the-catch. The quality assurance team at Fish Pier in Boston works to supply fin with only the best. Using the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the World Wildlife Federation, the Marine Stewardship Council and other scientifically and environmentally-reputable sources as guides, fin - your fishmonger brings the highest quality sustainable seafood to the region.

The seafood at fin is not the whole haul brought in by a day boat's fishermen, varying in quality. Exacting standards bring their customers seafood labeled Grade A, specifically chosen for the small, local business.
